Every time Cannibal Corpse tours Europe they make sure that they don’t leave Holland out of their itinerary. They have a strong fan base over here; tonight’s packed De Effenaar in Eindhoven is clearly a testimony to it. From the opening chords of ‘Gallery of Suicide’ until the last tones of ‘Stripped, Raped and Strangled’ they absolutely rule the stage, delivering the audience the best in brutal death metal.

 

As Cannibal Corpse runs through their set list it makes you wonder whether they have a luxury problem nowadays. Not more than two songs are played from each album they ever made. Since they have about ten albums under their belt I guess it must be harder and harder to select a set list that compromises all of their live favourites. But hey, they sure won’t ever throw ‘Hammer Smashed Face’ out of their set.

 

Cannibal Corpse never disappoints, no matter where you see them and when. They know how to deliver the goods, namely in big bloody chunks. And yet again George Fisher proves to be one of death metal’s greatest front men. Just the way he introduces the songs with that sarcastic undertone. Like ‘This one goes out to the fucking women out there’ to introduce ‘Fucked with a Knife’. Or ‘Next song is about our favourite subject, namely dead bodies.’ Right, like they have songs of a different subject. Hmm, how about ‘Five Nails Through The Neck’ or ‘Covered with Sores’? Nope, same subject here. It’s this no-compromise thing that made them really popular in the underground scene. And virtually made them the AC/DC of the death metal scene. With one significant difference, they do not live off their first success. (Angel)

 

Before Cannibal Corpse soaked the stage with its slaughtering riffs two Dutch bands had the chance to impress us. Devious replaced Mortem for the last two shows of this tour and with their second record, Domain, recently released, they definitely deserved to be here. On stage was proved that they can bring their mix of death and thrash very well and convincing, especially their raw sound contributed tremendously to the total feeling. Too bad that this was slightly ruined by a keyboard player on stage, which absolutely didn’t match their style, but overall I must say that The Netherlands is an awesome death metal band richer. Disavowed did the entire European tour with Cannibal Corpse and this experience paid off in a really superb live performance. Singer Robbe K caught everyone’s attention by his brutal vocals which he barfed almost constantly at the edge of the stage, which appealed the audience very well. A big pit soon emerged, Robbe joined it, stage dived and still hardly wasn’t out of breath! Musically Disavowed sounded more polished and modern than Devious; their sound often made me think of Decapitated. In 2001 their debut was released where after the band was at non-active for a long time due to a wrist injury of the drummer, but now they're back and they’re fucking impressive, I’m sure that their upcoming second album will get great reactions. The new material that was played also brutally destroyed the venue and when Robbe climbed on the shoulders of someone in the audience who subsequently bashed its way through the entire venue they made a lasting impression on everyone.
